Digicel Rising Stars
The Digicel Rising Stars Phenomenon Continues
The country's No. 1 television talent show, Digicel Rising Stars, returns for another season when it stages its first audition Saturday 12 April at the La Joya Complex, Eastern Main Road, St Joseph.
Hosted by entertainer, model Knycky Cordner, the hit series empowers mobile phone consumers to discover Trinidad and Tobago's next superstar by voting for their favourites to win the coveted Digicel Rising Stars title.
This year the show will maintain its same format. The auditions are open to anyone over the age of 16, who is not currently signed to a management or recording contract, and is a citizen or resident of Trinidad and Tobago. At the auditions, participants may either perform individually or in groups of up to four. There are five auditions this season, participants who are unsuccessful at one location, may try again at any other location. There is no entry fee and audition locations have been selected to ensure ease of access for all aspiring performers.
The judges, who this year include well known media personality and actress Simone Harris, choreographer/dancer Michael Salickram and entertainment manager Johnny Gonsalves will have their say after every performance, but it's the viewing public that determines who will advance to the next round of the competition and who will go home. Voting via a Digicel telephone and text messaging begins immediately after each episode is broadcast. The show's first broadcast will air on CCN TV6 on Sunday April 27 at 7:45pm with repeat shows during the week as well as on Gayelle, The Channel.
The competition is always narrowed down to two finalists who this year are competing for the production of a music video a booking contract, $100,000 in cash and the Digicel Rising Stars title. Past winners include the dance troupe Ecklectic and singer, Kay Alleyne.
